The Opening will be officiate by Y.Bhg.Dato’Dr.Tan Chee Kuan the Vice Chairman of Penang State Art Gallery Committee and Guest Curator.

The exhibition of Eston Tan which is “depictions of cities at night give light to the brilliance of both man and nature” starts 5th January 2012.

Front Liner Course among PSM Staffs

On 21^st Nov 2011,Penang State Musuem staffs took part in the “Front Liner Course” which is conducted by a hospitality trainer who has a experience for 30years in the hospitality field.

This course is mainly to enhance the service level of Penang Museum staffs. According to our Curator Puan.Haryany,her aim is to achieve the “Global Standard” of service. And this type of courses might help the staffs to improve and gain more knowledge and experience in the service line.

We would like to take this opportunity to thanked Pn.Haryany and the trainer for giving us such a useful opportunity to improve ourselves and to be a capable staff.

We do have our research assistant Ms.Ku Nuridayu@ Ayu to assist people who need help about the collections in our library. PRINT ART WORKSHOP WITH KDU STUDENTS

Print art workshop which was conduct by Mr.Maizul Effendy with our Penang State Museum staff Ms.Ku Nuuridayu @Ayu on 18^th Nov 2011(Friday) at KDU College at Jalan.Anson, Penang. KDU art class lecturer Mr.Maizul invites Ms.Ayu to organize such workshop due to the students final year project. The students will take it as a source for their final year project presentation. Normally for print art, we will used lino card but as for difference Ms.Ayu used wood card with oil paint to create a unique design. Wood engraving which is known as ‘Ukiran Kayu’ in malay is a popular art in village areas in Malaysia

Bintang Kecil Activity- (Group 5)

29 Students and 3 Teachers from SMJK (C)CHUNG HWA CONFUSION join together with us for the Bintang Kecil Activity on 17th November 2011 (Thursday) two days before starts of school holidays.The Students enjoyed the game during this activity which was conducte by our great tutors Ms.Ayu & Kak.Halimah.The students learned alot about the value and history of art.

‎29 Students and 3 Teachers from SK Seri Relau join together with us for the Bintang Kecil Activity on 16 November 2011 (Thursday).The primary students enjoyed the game during this fun activity.They learned alot about the value and history of art.

29 Students and 2 Teachers from SMK Convent Light Street join together with us for the Bintang Kecil Activity on 11 November 2011 (Friday).The Students enjoyed the game during this activity by giving us the BEST support.They learned alot about the value and history of art.Penang State Museum is proud and happy to organized such events.Thanks everyone..

Retrospective of Eric Quah

RETROSPECTIVE OF ERIC QUAH

ERIC QUAH is an international artist and traveller. He was born in year 1946 at Taiping, Perak. He received his early education in Penang.

Quah’s life is well documented in his canvas, characterized by a background of travels and a search for his identity against dramatic socio-cultural and political changes wherever he went. His art was enriched by his skills in incorporating elements of his Chinese roots and Malaysian cultural heritage in the context of multicultural and global environment.

Quah has held 44 solo shows in many countries. Since 1968,he has also won many international awards. His paintings are in public and private collections in USA, Canada, England, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and SE Asia.

The exhibition will be officiated by YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng Chief Minister of Penang on Friday 11 November 2011 at 4.30 p.m. The exhibition will open for public viewing from 2nd until 30th November 2011 at the Penang State Art Gallery, Dewan Sri Pinang.

Pameran Ulang Tahun PTAC Ke-47

Adalah dimaklumkan Kumpulan Seni Lukis Guru-guru Pulau Pinang ( The Penang Teachers’ Art Circle atau PTAC ) akan meraikan Ulang Tahun yang ke-47 pada tahun ini. Perasmian Pameran akan diadakan pada 8 Oktober 2011 ( Sabtu ) jam pukul 2.00 petang oleh Dato’ Khoo Kay Huat, Pengarah Eksekutif Seaswift Freight System (M) Sdn Bhd. Pameran ini akan berlangsung dari 3 – 28 Oktober 2011 di Galeri Pinang, Dewan Sri Pinang. Program “Jom, Bersukaria dengan Seni” akan diadakan serentak dengan pameran ini. Program ini bertujuan membimbing kanak-kanak dalam apresiasi seni serta berkreatif dalam pengaryaan. Lebih kurang 40 buah karya seni akan dipamerkan oleh guru-guru Pendidikan Seni Visual dan juga ahli-ahli yang telah bersara, antaranya ialah Dato’ Tang Hon Yin, Koay Soo Kau dan sebagainya. Orang ramai dijemput hadir untuk memeriahkan dan menjayakan pameran ini!!!

Pesta Pulau Pinang Open Art Competition is a contemporary art competition open to visual artist since the mid 1990s.

THEME:

“Lost in a Moment" Submit art that you interpret to be in line with this theme. We are open to BROAD interpretations and want to include a variety of views reflecting this theme.

Major Prize : RM 8,000.00 x 1 winners
Minor Prize : RM 5,000.00 x 3 winners
Consolation: RM 1,000.00 x 5 winners

COMPETITION DATELINE:

There are two stages to the judging of the artwork. For the first round , all entries must reach us by 14th October 2011 in JPG format. The JPG images of the artwork must be submitted in a CD (Compact Disc). For the final round, the short-listed entries will be notified to submit their actual artwork for final judging .


AGE REQUIREMENT:

The age requirement is between 16 years to 40 years of age before 31st Dec 2011.
